I don't want to suggest Jesus is like a Genie who comes out of a lamp granting us three wishes, but I wonder what we would ask of him if he said to us, "What do you want me to do for you?" That is the very question he puts to James and John, and then to Blind Bartimaeus in Mark 10:32-52. The two disciples ask for positions of power– Bartimaeus asks for mercy. James and John seek status and glory– Bartimaeus would like to recover his sight. Jesus shows us the path of true glory is in fact one of humility and service. The way of true power and authority is the way of mercy and love. Let me ask again, "What would you have Jesus do for you?" Can I suggest the old song about the blind man provides a good response– "Show me the way…"
