The church gathers for prayer and preaching, and while gathered they do what they need to do to be ready for Spirit-empowered witness. That, of course, is to select a twelfth apostle to replace the apostle who apostatized — Judas Iscariot. What I want to show you this morning is that we need to gather for prayer and preaching like the church did in those days, and that they needed a twelfth apostle to make up the full complement of the New Israel. Now that that 12th apostle has been chosen, we need to build on the foundation of the apostles by keeping in step with the Spirit.
