Theme: 1) The carnal man seeks Christ for what He can do for him in this world. He seeks the hand of God rather than the face of God. He does not believe that the Word of God is sufficient, and more important than earthly food. 2) The true believer recognizes Jesus's Words of eternal life, the need to feed on Him daily, and understands that abundant life means more than earthly provision, but rather, fulfilling the will of God. In vv. 25-27, the crowd asks Jesus when He came there. Jesus answers them, instead, by telling them why they came. In application, we need to ask what our motivation is for seeking Jesus. In vv. 28-29, they ask Jesus what they need to do, in order to do the works of God. In Jesus's answer, we see our need to consider what our expectation is of Jesus. In vv. 30-33, the crowd asks Jesus what sign He will do for them, so they can see and believe. In application, we need to evaluate our faith in Jesus. Finally, in vv. 34-40, in response to Jesus telling them of the Bread from God, they ask Jesus to give them this bread always! In application, let us ask ourselves if we feed on Jesus daily. May we truly seek His face and know that true life is found only in Him! |
