God is holy and cannot look on sin. When believers sin and don't immediately repent, God will treat them as sons and they will be disciplined. There are consequences for unconfessed sin and there is a confidence in confessed sin. God is committed to make us holy, by reproof from the Word or by discipline with the rod. In discipline, we must remember God's character and His promises. God hears the prayers of those who come in repentance, giving assurance and boldness before God. Sin doesn't disturb our union with Christ, but it does wreak havoc on our communion with Him.
