Psalm 5 is a prayer of David in despair. 1) prepare your prayers - David prepared set times to pray and first acknowledges who he is praying to. 2) know your God - David's confidence in prayer flows out of the knowledge of the character of God found in the Scriptures. David prays because God is uncompromising in His holiness. 3) make our request - David's prayer is heard only because of God's sovereign grace which results in an attitude of reverence. David prays that God would lead him in His way of righteousness. 4) declare your confidence - David is seeking that God's name would be honoured and that His enemies would be judged in accordance with His righteousness. Blessed are the righteous, those who are in a right relationship with God, those who have fled for refuge in Christ.
