When difficulties arise in various forms, how do we view God? Some look to God to get rid of the difficulties. Some really don't consider God. Some live in dreaded fear of God. Finally, some accept that God controls all things for His glory and for our good.
1. God's hedge (v. 10a). We learn that God protects His people. We are not our own protectors and keepers. Our earthly lives are protected by God. More importantly, our spiritual lives are protected by God. Jesus said no one can snatch us out of his hands (Jn. 10:28-29). Paul said, "But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one." (2Th. 3:3)
2. God's blessings (v. 10b). God blessed everything Job did. Every achievement, accomplishment, advancement, increase, — both material and spiritual come to you as a blessing from God. As Moses said to Israel, "for it is he who gives you power to get wealth" (Deut. 8:18).
3. God's touch (v. 11). Once God puts His hand against us, we shall be undone. Remember Nebuchadnezzar and Rom. 1:24, 26, 28. As Joseph Caryl said, "the best gotten and the best founded estate in outward things, is uncertain; that there is no trusting to any creature-comforts." You see every touch from our heavenly Father comes to us through the death of His Son. The Son appeased the Father and paid the penalty of our sins. No touch from God the Father will ever be to destroy us, to punitively undo us — all that has come upon Jesus Christ who was pierced for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities, upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace and with his wounds we are healed. (Is. 53:5)
