When discouragement comes in a race, you drop your hands and your knees become week. When we see the discipline of the Lord, our response should be the opposite. We should see it as coming from His hand for our good and that should encourage us to persevere. It should not just cause us to be encouraged, but we have a responsibility to encourage others to correct what is out of order so that others don't go off the path. We need to seek peace with all men, but not without holiness. We can never sacrifice holiness for peace and we should expect the world to war against us. We are to seek peace with the significant limitation of seeking holiness as the same time. We should understand that it will be offensive to those who consider themselves righteous, but are really slaves of the flesh like Esau who sacrificed the promises of God to satisfy the desires of his flesh. We are to warn others that they cannot give into the flesh when they are running the race. All those who are saved will run it with endurance.
