What we see here in the Pharisees and Scribes is NOT pure minds and hearts offended by uncleanness and carnal sin. There was nothing just or holy in bringing this woman into the temple in front of the Lord and the congregation like this. Jesus is suddenly surrounded by two of the worst kinds of sinners, the sensual and those driven by religious malice. While the woman's sin was unspeakable, the sin of the Scribes and Pharisees was much harder to deal with. No wonder the Lord said to them in Matthew 21:31, " ...the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you."
