At Baptism God repeats to us the same promise He gave to Abraham. He says I will be your God and you shall be My people. As a sign of this mark of separation and a seal of this promise He commanded the Jews to circumcise their children. So He does with us as Christians to do with baptism. This does not mean that all covenant children go to heaven; only those who believe in Jesus.
