Wisdom sayings are not absolute promises that can be universally applied to every believer, in every situation, across every time and culture, and when we take general truths in Scripture and universally apply them across the board, we're going to have to make some pretty harsh judgments about those who don't seem to be walking in the promises of those texts. So Bildad's absolute and unconditional application of traditional wisdom to Job's situation left him with only one conclusion: Job wasn't walking in God's blessing because he had sinned and needed to repent. But this kind of universal application of the promises of Scripture leaves no room for the hidden purposes of God in not blessing us with prosperity, health, or other temporal comforts. It leaves no room for His wisdom in ordaining a season of suffering for our greater good and His ultimate glory. So we need to be careful here friends because this kind of thinking is very subtle and more of us are affected by it than we realize.
