"Job doesn't understand why God – the Creator and Supreme Ruler over all the universe – is so concerned with puny man that He watches his every single step. He says, 'I can't even swallow my spit in private.' That's verse 19. Friends these are probably very shocking words to us, who, as New Covenant believers in our right minds would never dream of uttering such words to a holy God, but I want you to know something: God is not afraid of our grief. He is not shocked by our deepest darkest laments – in fact the Psalms are full of them. So instead of being a license to hurl angry accusations at God – and that is certainly not what Job is doing – instead of being a license to be angry with God, this is a safety net of grace to be honest with God about our questions and pain while holding on to what we know is true. Remember Job never loses faith – even while he's saying all this. So friend when it's your turn, be honest with God, but keep the faith."
