The believer in Jesus Christ is placed by God into His family also called the body of Christ, the church. All who become believers have God as their creator and all have sinned against Him and all have been forgiven by Him, of all their sin. This forgiveness is then to be shown and demonstrated in turn by the believer to all other believers when they sin. While justification is complete and glorification is certain, sanctification is in process. Believers will sin and when they do they are to be confronted with the Scriptures, called to repent, and when they do forgiven. That forgiveness is to be shown to one another as is necessary when there is sin and repentance. The believer forgiving does not have to nor should they determine if the repentance is genuine. That is between the one sinning and God. The sincerity of the repentance will be evident over time but the forgiveness given by the other believer is not to be delayed while waiting for that evidence. As needed, forgiveness must be given when asked for and repentance declared. Restoration is the intention, goal, and motivation for confrontation in both one-on-one situations as well as by the church.
