The man who had just arrived was also being hunted simply because his family was thought to support David. Yet David could encourage him to stay. That is the paradox of persecution. For a suffering Christian the obvious danger is the rouble that threatens; but the greater danger is forsaking Christ in order to find safety. The only safe place is close to the Saviour who suffered for us, and is now rewarded with a loving and worshipping people. 'Abide in me.'
