The Marriage Covenant is made with God and therefore held to the standards of God. Despite conventional wisdom which allows either the church or the couple to write the vows to which they feel they should be held God has already written His standards and it is to these not to man which He holds the couple accountable. It is imperative therefore tor the couple to discover as quickly as possible those vows to which they are held personally accountable by God. The wife's ministry from God is to be her husband's helpmate, yet if the husband will not be truthful she cannot fulfill this vow. Many husbands in an effort to shield and protect their wives from the difficulties, discouragements and fears with which they are confronted on a daily basis, instead deprive them of their ministry and future riches in heaven. The husband therefore is to be truthful with his wife, open to her about his feelings and needs, allowing her to minister to him. Likewise the wife vows to create a home into which the husband may enter as a refuge from the chaos of the world. One of peace and security that he might feel secure enough to be vulnerable and allow himself to be ministered to by his wife. A wife cannot make her home on the one hand a wasteland, barren and empty, which her husband knows will be dark and cold when he returns, because of her ministry, career and education and then be surprised that he is not open and honest.
