The Marriage Covenant is made with God and therefore held to the standards of God. Despite conventional wisdom which allows either the church or the couple to write the vows to which they feel they should be held God has already written His standards and it is to these not to man which He holds the couple accountable. It is imperative therefore tor the couple to discover as quickly as possible those vows to which they are held personally accountable by God. The husband is to love his wife as Christ loves the church. If he is to do this then those passages which present Christ complete and absolute availability to the church then also present a husband as loving his wife in the same manner. That means that if you as a husband feel free to boldly approach the Throne of Grace to find help, mercy and comfort when you are in need, then your wife too should feel free to approach you with the confidence that you will want to talk, that you will be both merciful and comforting and that you will help her. We pray and read the Word without fear and our wives should expect a listening ear and a transparent partner, without fear or argument on our part. The wife however vows to be sexually exciting to her husband. If she does not fulfill this vow he has no legitimate recourse. Wives therefore take great pride in their ability to minister to their husbands sexual needs. They minister to their husband not as if he were a brother or worse a sister but rather the sexually needy man to whom God entrusted her.
