But who's behind it and what is the pressure doing?
Ezra... 7:10 "For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the Law of the Lord, and to do it and to teach it...
1. He gave his heart to know the Lord and His was. 2. He gave his all to obey what he knew. 3. He gave his life to teach what he embraced, experienced and endured.
Solomon and Rehoboam's mother misled and misguided their son. The cost and consequences get ugly for them but still glorify the Lord and His unwavering trustworthiness.
The man did what he thought was right — but what he thought was right wasn't prepared right — because his way was not God's way.
Why?
"He did not prepare his heart to seek the Lord." (2 Chronicles 12:14)
You Have to Settle It 
When the because of a life leads to evil. 
The root to an insignificant life comes down to this thought. Not that one can't accomplish great things, be remembered for extraordinary achievements and be written about in the annuals of men. No, all these can be current and your life turn out good for nothing in the eyes of God and eternity. 
Rehoboam settled it, he just settled it in the wrong direction... and it reflected in everything, everyday, everywhere in every way. 
It's too easy to be involved in good things that have zero eternal value. And no matter how fun or beneficial a thing may be... or even how helpful it may be, if it's not rooted in nor the result of faith it is considered by God as "good for nothing eternally."
