Fear that Esau would now kill him, as he had threatened to do 20 yrs ago as he left the land a wanted man by Esau. No sooner than the Angel vision is behind him, Jacob does what he does well, scheme, He sends his own messengers out to scope the land and see if he can placate Esau with gifts and to get assurance that Esau will forgive Jacob.
