Well, we come to another Lord's Day, but in this case it is also the first day of a new year, and it is communion Sunday as well. With the uniqueness of the day in mind, I thought it would be appropriate to bring a sermon related to entering the New Year, and following that we will come together at the Lord's Table. In this sermon I will expound the text indicated above. However, I will do what I have not heard done before, which is to include the entire context of the familiar text of Micah 6:8 (i.e. vv. 6-7 are vitally important to rightly understanding v. 8). I will open up the main exortation of the text under its three natural headings (see v. 8), which reveal what we are to “love” and what we should “practice” as Christians. What we have here in essence are the “three steps” to a spiritual life that is truly pleasing to God. If we strive to put these steps into practice in the upcoming year our souls will certainly prosper. Since the “three steps” are filled with application, I will conclude with only a brief word relative to the New Year. May the Lord help us to “hear” His word preached; to receive it into our hearts; and then apply it with spiritual wisdom!
