INTRO: We are in Ephesians 3, and in the fourth purpose clause of Paul's prayer for the Ephesians. It is a while since I did the last message so let me go over the purpose clauses we have been considering. First:
1 that God would grant them according to the riches of His glory to be strengthened with power through the Holy Spirit in the inner man.
Paul was not speaking of becoming a Christian here. He was speaking to those who were already Christians. That which he wanted to happen in the last purpose clause begins by being strengthened by His power in the inner man. Second:
2 that Christ might dwell in their hearts by faith.
Here is a living vibrant faith that lives right in life's various circumstances. And once Christ can be at home in the believer in this way it will make it possible for the third purpose clause which is:
3 that they might be able to (begin to) comprehend and know the love of Christ. This then makes it possible for clause number 4 to happen. Without these three things, the fourth can't take place. And the fourth is:
4 that they might be filled with all the fullness of God.
