Here is a story with tension. The need is great; but Jesus appears to refuse help. Is he right? Is she right to ask? Will she persevere? What will he do? Jesus' ministry extends across all nations, but in the days of his flesh it was intended largely for God's covenant people. She was a stranger. Jesus' conduct brought her to the point where she accepted that she had no rights. In spite of that she believed the Scriptures, that the Son of David was for all nations. Her persevered in spite of who she was. That is great faith. It is often the same when a person realises their sin. They have to abandon any claim on God, and accept that they are totally dependent on his mercy. The story has lessons about faith. It is not the same as comfort or assurance that we are saved. It does not a need a personal message, but depends on what God has revealed in his Word. Faith acts on what OGd has said. It accpets that we have no rights, but it perseveres because Christ is the Saviour of sinners.
