As we begin to look at the third year of Jesus' ministry John presents Jesus' discourse (initiated by people's response to the feeding of the 5000 miracle) on the true Bread of Life. There were three groups Jesus spoke to in this discussion. First, He spoke to the multitudes, then He spoke to the Jewish Leaders (whenever the New Testament uses the word "Jews" it is talking about the Jewish leaders or the ultra-religious) and then to His Disciples (which included the 12 Apostles). To each He gave a message and an exhortation about the Bread being a picture of Jesus. The bread of life is not the bread we eat, but the Bread of Life is Jesus. He is the only thing that you can "eat' or "drink" and have your spiritual life sustained.
