The 6th sermon in the series, "The Gospel of God's Righteousness," covering the Book of Romans. The justification of Abraham, by faith, is discussed heavily in Romans 4, as the Apostle Paul argues against the false teaching of justification by the law. Not one of us, not Abraham, could uphold the law; but through faith, like Abraham, we are justified and adopted into the family of faith: faith in Christ, the only One perfect according to the law. Pastor Chris outlines three points from the text:
1. God made a promise to Abraham 2. Abraham believed God's promise 3. God's promise to Abraham is for us
"For the promise to Abraham and his offspring that he would be heir of the world did not come through the law but through the righteousness of faith" (Romans 4:13, ESV). Before the law was given, Abraham was given the very righteousness of God by faith. Genesis 15:6, in reference to Abraham (at this time, "Abram"), states, "And he believed God and He counted it to him as righteousness" (ESV). God still works this same way, as whoever believes in Christ will not perish and be condemned, but will have eternal life (John 3:16).
