The 4th sermon in the series, "The Gospel of God's Righteousness," covering the Book of Romans. Without Christ, we are spiritually dead, broken, and totally depraved. Without this recognition, we could not see the beauty of God, His plan of redemption, and His love. Pastor Chris discusses: 1. Totally depraved character 2. Totally depraved conduct 3. Totally depraved world
As Paul, in the power of the Holy Spirit, writes, "For no one will be justified in his sight by the works of the law, because the knowledge of sin comes through the law" (Romans 3:20, ESV). Through God's law, there is only judgement, because we are simply incapable of living up to His standards due to our fallen nature. Our God, however, is also full of grace and mercy, putting on flesh and living the perfect life, a satisfactory sacrifice for all the world's past, present, and future sin (but we must respond to this truth in faith). Not through the law, but through faith in Jesus, are we saved from our depravity and the punishment we deserve.
"...but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God."
