2 Corinthians 6:14-16 lays out for us God's command that believers and unbelievers should not be unequally yoked. This is sadly a common occurrence, with often more Christian women married to unbelieving men, although it occurs the other way as well. It brings about a lot of pain and hardship in the believer's life. We are not to go into a marriage like this knowingly, but sometimes it is the case that one spouse is saved after the marriage or was naïve about God's command at the time. In this case, we can apply the principle that God allows trials for our good, including in marriage, and that He disciplines those He loves. Some have trials in health, some in finances, some in upbringing, some in marriage. Our rod is often through men - which is painful - but God ordains it in His love for us. We can remember how much Christ endured on the cross. May we kiss the rod.
