'Laughter is the best medicine!' or so it would seem. It lowers blood pressure, increases blood flow and the production of T-cells that destroy tumors. So, one would expect that the 'blessed' person or the 'fortunate' one would be one who could laugh. If man was writing the beatitudes, the third would read, 'Blessed are those who laugh, for they will find true health and happiness.' But it does not. Jesus says, 'Blessed are those who weep, who mourn now, for they shall be comforted.' The kind of weeping or mourning Jesus has in mind is a Godly sorrow that leads to repentance. Those who become serious about dealing with the sin issues within and the injustices without-- who weep now, one day they will be comforted. But why are we insensitive to sin in our lives and injustices in our society? Two reasons: 1) Over-exposure to the world; Under-exposure to the Word of God. and 2) Over-exposure to the Word of God; Under-performance of it. Now, those who mourn over their sinful spiritual condition will one day laugh. Laugh because our sins are forgiven, and laugh because in heaven, one day, there will be no more sorrow or pain, but rather fullness of joy forevermore. However those who laugh now, who fail take serious their sinful condition, refuse to repent, in the future they will weep. Hell is the place where there will be 'weeping and gnashing of teeth.' Hell is not the 'party' place, but rather a place of perpetual sorrow and hopelessness. So, it is much better to weep now and laugh later, than to laugh now and weep later! |
