It's easy to get caught up with the things people are doing and start responding to them with traits they posses, rather than remembering who we are as a leader. Therefore, it's fundamentally important to know the vision we've been given and our goals to equip and shape them for the future.
Leaders become poor leaders when they get snared...by the actions of those they're suppose to be leading. Proverbs 29:12 says, "If a leader pays attention to lies, all those following him will become wicked."
I have to ask myself often, am I fulfilling my God given role as a leader over my family and church, or am I letting them lead me by their actions? Is my leadership a reaction to what they're doing or am I leading them to where the Lord is leading me? I need to take David's prayer and apply it to myself, "Remember not the DO, but the WHO!"
King Asa is a great example of someone who gave his attention and affection to the lie and the destructive consequences that followed.
