In answering a question about the future of the Jewish people, Paul cites the example of Elijah who felt he was the only one left of the Lord's people and that his life was in peril. He did not realise that the Lord had reserved 7000 who were loyal to Him and had not bowed the knee to Baal.
We too can lose sight of the fact that the future of God's kingdom and its work does not depend solely upon us. God may, at times, pursue His plans without us. We can become pessimistic and write off our future, or the future of the church. We need to remember God has His people everywhere; He knows how many people He has and where they are. He puts them in a position to be able to help each other. Our paths may cross one day, so let us value our 7000, whoever, and wherever they are.
