There has been much misunderstanding about this chapter containing "the Olivet discourse". Though I claim no great scholarship or unusually deep spirituality, I do believe this sermon contains valuable light. I. Acute distresses are "the beginning of sorrows" but not the end of the age: matthew 24:1-8. II. The "great tribulation" begins in Jerusalem in the middle of the 70th week of Daniel and lasts until "the sign of the Son of Man" appears in the heavens: Matthew 24:29. III. The coming of Christ and "the sign" preceeding His coming will be very visible, not secret: Matthew 24:27-31.
