We have been looking at Jesus's teaching at the last supper. He is surrounded by trouble. Betrayal from Judas, denial from Peter, the scattering of the flock, and the coming crucifixion. Yet He teaches, talks, and emphasizes love and peace alongside of lots of teaching. God's love and our love for Him and each other was not to be for the good times, but for the times it would be hard to love. It was never to be without truth, that wouldn't be love, but it was to be evident to all. He teaches about peace the same way. That even in the midst of the coming storm of opposition, they weren't to let their hearts be troubled. There foundation was believing in Him and God. This was a set foundation that would never change. God is in control, everything is in His hands, and in the times of opposition, we can rest that God knows, cares, and is still in control. Last week we looked at the second mention of His peace. This was completely different than the worlds peace. The worlds peace is an emotion, usually a temporary absence of conflict. It is fleeting. God's peace is based on total victory. He didn't come to make peace with the evil of the world, but to save us from it. He was going to work till we had total victory. We looked at three verses where the bible talks about the God of Peace. In Romans 16:20 the God of Peace will crush Satan under your feet shorty. In 1 Thessalonians Paul prays for victory in the inner man. In 1 Thessalonians 5:23 He prays “ 23 Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
