Have you ever considered all the names the Scriptures give to Jesus Christ? There are more than 200 of them. Some of these names are titles, such as: the Son of the Living God, the Lord of Glory, the King of Kings, and the Lord of Lords. Others are descriptive of His character. He is the Obedient Son, the Holy One of Israel, the One who is Worthy, the One who is Faithful and True. Still others describe His divine attributes. He is the Alpha and Omega, the Ever Living One, the Word of Life, the Beloved Son, the Light of the World. Some of His names describe His role as both author and mediator of our salvation, such as: the Lamb of God, the Great Shepherd of the Sheep, the Captain of Our Salvation, the Redeemer of the World, and the Resurrection and the Life.Other names are more poetic, reflecting Jesus’ nature where other descriptive words would fail, such as: the Rose of Sharon, the Lily of the Valleys, the Balm of Gilead, and the Bright and Morning Star. One of the last of Jesus’ names—at least alphabetically-is one of the best, one that personifies the joy of this Christmas season. |
