John 1:14 Jesus took on flesh and "tabernacled" among us. Tabernacle means "tent of meeting," and is interchangeable with temple.
God has tabernacled with his people throughout time, first in the Garden of Eden, then in the tabernacle in the wilderness, then in the temple, then in the person of Jesus, and finally, in the New haven and earth, God Himself and the Lamb of God will the temple forever. When God tabernacles with His people, He always takes the initiative. He walked with Adam and Eve in the Garden. He sought them out when they sinned. Leviticus 26:11 I will make my dwelling among you, and my soul shall not abhor you. Revelation 21:3 "Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. It doesn't say we will dwell with Him, it says, He will dwell with His people. As in all things, God is the primary actor. God created man in His own image so that man could have fellowship with God. He sent His Son to save His people from their sin. However, man has rejected God in every tabernacle. The sellers and money changers displaced God Himself in the temple. This is why the Son of God had to drive out the sellers and money changers. How do we know heaven is secure? How do we know man will not once again, seek to displace God? Because Jesus said, "Destroy the temple (His body) and He would raise it up in three days." Jesus makes all things new by His death and resurrection on the third day. This was His sign and His disciples believed in Him.
Just as the wedding at Cana pointed to the wedding feast of the Lamb, so Jesus driving out the sellers point to Christ the true temple.
