Sound doctrine and practical godliness cannot be compromised in these perilous times. This is the message the apostle Paul had for Timothy. After finding grace in the eyes of the Lord, Noah walked with God in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation. Even so, Paul concentrates on Timothy's character, exhorting him to live out his Christian life with good works. When one lives what he preaches, the world, and the religious world, will be envious. Such was the case with the Lord Jesus Christ. The scriptures tell us that the Pharisees delivered up Christ because of envy. In these last days, men will not want a preacher or someone to pastor them; they "will not endure sound doctrine." So, Timothy, because of this, remember God's charge to you. The ministry of the Word of God is a solemn, profound responsibility. The congregation is required by God to acknowledge the leadership of the pastor by obedience and submission, knowing that one day he will have to answer to God for their souls.
