When bad things happen, how are we to respond? The Apostle Paul suffered much, and in this passage, we find three props he leaned on to help him flourish, even in difficult times. First, Paul had an abiding faith. He knew there was a God in Heaven who knows, cares, and is able. In times of trouble, we also need to focus on the truth we know about God. We may not understand why the trial is happening, but we can trust His character. Secondly, Paul knew that God had a purpose in trials. God develops the inner man through suffering, and we grow most when things are difficult. We can ask the Lord, "How are You growing me through this experience?" Finally, Paul knew that there was a future reward coming. He lived in light of eternity. The light (in comparison) affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory! |
