Jeremiah was not popular. He prophecied hard truths. His message was a relentless critique of the Church and State. But his message was from God, and we must listen to it. What does God say here? 1. I have forsaken and hated. Verses 7-9. 2. The spoilers have come. Verses 8, 10-13. The enemies have come in like a flood. 3. A specific designation: "the Pastors have destroyed my vineyard." 4. A painful remedy. verses 14-17. God punishes the spoilers to test for faithfulness. Application. 1. The church of today cannot boast of being God's heritage while being unfaithful to his demands. 2. A matter of great concern - "no man layeth it to heart." 3. A cause for thankfulness - the Church shall go on for ever. 4. There is a uniqueness to the Christian faith - "the ways of my people." 5. Do not despair of the conversion of the worst of sinners -"those who taught my people to swear by Baal." 6. What shall happen to those who refuse to repent? - "I will utterly destroy them."
