In this chapter Jeremiah graphically prophecies of coming judgements upon the people of Israel. 1. The marred girdle. That which had been good and beautiful had become ruined and ugly because of sin. 2. The full bottle. The people become a bottle full of the wrath of God. 3. The dark mountain. The appearance may have been great and glorious, but the reality was dismal - darkness instead of light, death instead of life. 4. The disgraced royals. The leaders and governors of the people would be brought to disgrace, having been set on high they would be brought to nothing. 5. A sinful woman. The people likened to a harlot, deceitful, unfaithful, treacherous. Both high and low, rich and poor would suffer equally if not repentant. Application of this prophecy to our situation. The question ever stands before us "wilt thou be made clean?"
