If Jacob was chosen and Esau was rejected before they were born and before either of them had done good or evil in order that election might stand, what more needs to be said? If it is not of him that wills nor of him that runs or if God has mercy on whom He wills and compassion on whom He wills and hardens whom He wills, this case is open and shut. There is no need to go further than Romans 9. How else can this chapter be explained? And if we do not like those truths, who are we, mere humans to say, "Why did You make me like this?" Can not the potter make from the same lump of clay one vessel to honor and another to dishonor? Can this chapter be explained I any other way?
