When we consider the theme of this conference, "Truth Worth Dying For", we need to understand that everything that belongs to the Christian life can be summed up in the word TRUTH. Our Lord is Himself the truth. The gospel by which we came to know Him is the word of truth. The Word of God that has been entrusted to us and by which we are sanctified is truth (John 17:17). The pathway that the believer is called to walk in is the pathway of truth. The Lord's Church, the fellowship of God's people, is the community that can be described as "of the truth" and in which the truth abides. The church's function in the world is to serve as the pillar and support of the truth. And so, if we ask if the truth is worth dying for, what we are asking is: Is Christ worth dying for? Is the gospel worth dying for? Is the Bible worth dying for? Is the way of righteousness worth dying for? Is the church worth dying for? The answer, of course, is clear. Yes. GOD'S TRUTH IS WORTH DYING FOR. What we are declaring, of course, as we say this, is that there IS truth.
There is truth as opposed to opinion. There is truth as opposed to error. There is a fixed standard by which everything else is measured and found to be right or found to be wanting. There is that which is substantive, concrete, and sure. That which is fact. What we are saying is that what the Bible declares is reality. THERE IS TRUTH. God is the determiner and giver of truth. It is His truth. AND SALVATION IS A TRANSFERENCE INTO THE TRUTH. The people whom He saves, He delivers from the realm of darkness, from the realm of lies, and He brings them into the truth. He forms them by the truth and He forms them for the truth. AS I SA
