Theme: A true follower of Christ isn't one who seeks to get for self, but one who seeks to give all to Jesus from the heart! In the review from chapter 20: 41-44, Jesus gives a theological question. This shows the importance of acknowledging Jesus as the Christ and King. In vv. 45-47, we see a poor example of following Christ and learn to beware of spurious followers. Chapter 21:1-4 gives a rich example of a follower of Christ. As Jesus points out the widow who gave all she had, we see the importance of remembering that God doesn't measure gifts as men do. Our motivation matters to Him, and we should worship the Lord with all we have from the heart. So we must seek to live as counter-culture Christians. Today in American Christianity, it is stylish to be as close to the world as possible. We must not only shun that, we must shun comfortable Christianity, which seeks to be Christians only on Sunday. We must seek to be like this widow who gave everything to God and put her whole trust in Him. She did this humbly, not seeking glory but seeking to worship God alone.
