This he does to convince his brethren to continue trusting the Lord through every circumstance of life, walking in the new covenant manner of life. This chpt. closes with the thought that the OT saints never yet received the promise of eternal inheritance so that the NT saints might enjoy some better thing that God provided for them. Well, that better thing for us is the opportunity of living under the terms of the new covenant. But we (OT & NT saints) were all perfected at once when Christ gave Himself up for our sins to God.
