As we look at what it meant for Jesus to be full of grace and truth, we know that as Christians, God's goal for us is to be conformed to the image of His Son. The fact that Jesus was full of grace and truth revealed His divine nature as well as His character. Jesus was so full of grace that He was known as the "Friend of Sinners," yet His graciousness did not lead Him to avoid truth. He spoke often of Hell. He didn't tell people what they wanted to hear but what they needed to hear. As humans, most of us are out of balance, either speaking truth while tending to neglect grace or being gracious in a way that ignores the truth of God's Word. We need to seek to speak the truth in love, as Jesus did. We cannot change ourselves to have the proper balance of grace and truth, but need to ask God for His help to cooperate with His Spirit, day by day, and hour by hour. |
