Even if the Law is not necessary for justification there is still the question raised if it is necessary for sanctification. The question is first answered by Paul by means of an illustration and explanation of the marriage relationship, when after the death of a spouse, obligation to that marriage is over. Paul continues by describing his struggle as an unbeliever when he was trying to keep the Law to satisfy God's demand for righteousness. God gave the Law. It is God's Word. Dying to sin and the Law is not because the Law is sin or in some way is faulty. Sin came into the world before the Law was ever given so the Law is not the cause of sin. The Law serves to reveal sin. The connection of the Law to sin is explained by Paul. The Law is not the problem of sin nor is it the solution to sin. The Law served the purpose for which it was given as is explained in the passage. This message is followed by a brief question and answer session.
