Many people make New Year's resolutions to improve some aspect of their lives. At the root of almost all resolutions is an issue of self-control, though it is hardly ever identified as such. The whole idea of self control, and that we are out of control, is humbling. In our text, Peter says that we must "apply all diligence" and add "self control" to our knowledge. So, we will consider what this means and we will consider the various areas of our lives in which we may be out of control -- (money, time, possessions, sex, words, anger, etc.) We will look at the root cause of a a lack of self control in these areas and how to mortify these lusts.
