Philippians 3 teaches us that coming to know Christ as one's personal Saviour requires counting all other things to be loss in terms of assets before God for salvation. That same spirit is necessary to have a growing personal knowledge of Christ after salvation. We are to continually count all things to be loss before God so that we can have a growing personal knowledge of Jesus Christ. In Philippians 3:10-11 Paul explains what this growing knowledge of Christ means, the way to this growing knowledge and the ultimate goal of this growing knowledge of Christ. Because God is good and because we must continually count all things to be loss before God if we desire to grow in knowledge of Christ, our prayer ought to be "Lord, whatever it takes, I want to know Christ more personally and experientially because everything else pales in comparison to the value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord."
