In Philippians 3:8 Paul emphatically reinforces what he said in verse 7: I count all things to be loss. His motivation is "the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord." The end of verse 8 says he gladly does this "so that he may gain Christ." And verse 10 says "that he may know Christ." There is no greater value in the world that to personally, experientially, and savingly know Jesus Christ as your Lord. We either hang onto our own righteousness and have no Christ or we forfeit our own righteousness and know Christ savingly for eternity.
