THE storm dragged on, unabated. Prudence found her eyes on several occasions return anxiously to the great screw which held the beam. How relieved she had been when some men had made the whole thing more secure. They had hammered in several mast wedges, long thin tapering pieces of wood, as tall as a man, to hold the mast in position. They had fetched a stout post from the hold below and forced it into position against the beam to make extra support for the vital weak part. She was glad to see the comfortingly strong ropes securely lash all in place. 'How good God has been to deliver us from such great danger,' she thought. She sighed, closed her eyes and leant back.
