After spending most of the chapter declaring what will happen in the battles between the king of the North and the king of the South, now a new king is described. This king will be a king who claims to be above all gods and he will prosper till the wrath has been accomplished. Just as the king of the South and the king of the North were actually a series of kings, this king is the series of Roman emperors. This is the fourth kingdom, Rome, the ten horned beast of Daniel 7. It will conquer all of the land, then it will hear a rumor from the north and the east. It will invade the Glorious Land. plant the tents of his palace between the seas and the glorious mountain, but he comes to his end. As we have considered the prophesies of Daniel, including the battles, death and destruction. We need to remember this is about the God accomplishing His wrath. This is how seriously He takes the blasphemy of His name, that He would cause nation to rise against nation for hundreds of years to punish the Jewish people for taking His name in vain. May we take the blasphemy of God's name as seriously as He does.
