Abraham is at the lowest point of his spiritual pilgrimage. Having witnesssed the destruction of Sodom, he is overcome with fear - a liability with which Abraham has long struggled. In his fear & unbelief, he lost sight of God & God's Word & he began to compromise. We need to be warned lest life's tragedies dislodge us from faithful service to Christ. Often people who once walked with God do so no longer claiming that some horrific experience made them doubt God & caused them to withdraw from His worship. They lost a loved one, experienced a tramatic tragedy, were wounded by gross injustice. Now they refuse to worship God. They've left the land & care less about His promised seed: Jesus Christ. Abraham experienced that very thing. We can learn much from his example & God's gracious dealings with him.
