Observing Abraham leaving Hebron & heading south is shocking. He appears like he is headed back to Egypt (chpt 12)! Indeed we learn that in Gerar he sins again by lying about Sarah & allowing her to be taken into the harem of the king. The thing that exacerbates his sin is that the promised son is due to arrive soon & yet he puts Sarah into the arms of another man! We follow Abraham to Gerar &, astonishingly, he looks like Lot moving into Sodom! Why did Abraham leave the promised land & jeopardize the promised seed? I believe it was due to his reaction to the sight of God's wrath vented on Sodom. Could you be living on the fringe, distancing yourself from God's covenant blessings? Could you be misjudging God because He is a God of wrath?
