I. The Weakness of Jesus at His birth The circumstances of Christ's birth shout WEAKNESS! Though He was the Son of God with infinite power, it was the Father's will (and His) that He be clothed in weakness and that He be dependent on the Spirit for all power.
II. Christ's weakness during the days of His ministry When we think of Christ's ministry, we usually think of HIs power and strength. The miracles, the healings, the resurrections, feeding the 5,000, etc. But those miracles burst out of His ordinary weakness.
III. Christ's weakness in His sufferings and death Sufferings make creatures weak. And Christ's whole life was a life of suffering. He was a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. Behold Jesus in Gethsemane and on the cross. There He was the epitome of weakness.
IV. Application: don't despise weakness. God chooses the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God often makes men weaker before He chooses to work in and through them (see Gideon).
Embrace the weakness God gives you. It is God's opportunity.
