The Christian life in regard to all generations, from time of the Church's being founded at the Day of Pentecost, until the Day that Christ returns, is a life of anticipation. It is looking forward to the great things that God will do for us personally in regard to changing and transforming our lives to be more and more like Christ. And it is looking forward to the progress, which over time, the Church shall make in promoting Christ's Kingdom and His glory among the nations. What will this year bring? Well, we do not know all that it will bring, exactly. But yet, we ought to be a forward looking people, living by faith all in the promises of God. Here we find the promise of new heavens and new earth in which all Christians can, and should, rejoice. Drawing from the promises in this passage, in this New Year of 2023, we ought 1st of all – to be glad and rejoice forever in what God has created in the New Testament Church. (verses 17 & 18) And 2nd – We ought to be glad and rejoice even now, in terms of what God will do with the present physical and spiritual Jerusalem. (verses 19-23) And 3rd – We ought to rejoice and be glad in terms of what God will do in bringing peace between very different peoples. (verses 24 and 25) Let us consider together the strength, the beauty, and the glory of the words found here in this passage.
